Overview
The challenges we face can be difficult to even think about. Climate change, war, extreme inequality, economic upheaval, and the dying back of nature together create a planetary emergency of overwhelming proportions.
Active Hope shows us how to strengthen our capacity to face this crisis so that we can respond with unexpected resilience and creative power. The course is based on the book Active Hope co-authored by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone and a free online training course devised by Chris Johnstone. It is designed to take participants on a journey that nourishes their capacity to make a positive difference in the world. Each section of the course introduces a practice that can be carried out as a personal reflection, or as a structured partnered conversation, or as a group practice. The intention is to support people in responding to the climate crisis without falling into despair, and to strengthen our resilience and capacity to act with meaningful hope.
It is a transformational process informed by mythic journeys, modern psychology, spirituality, and holistic science. This process equips us with tools to face the mess we’re in and play our role in the collective transition, or Great Turning, to a life-sustaining society.
