SUMMARY:Steve Nuthall and Paul Hodgkin will be presenting ‘DOUGHNUT ECONOMICS’
DESCRIPTION:baoAt our last meeting we learnt how our dependence on fossil fuels for energy is continuing to increase\, driven by an economic system that exploits the planet’s natural resources in the search for profit. We agreed that it would be useful to look at ‘Doughnut Economics’ which is an alternative economic system that balances human need with protecting the earth and is gaining support amongst environmentalists and economists.

SUMMARY:Active Hope – Be the Change Introductory taster session No fee
DESCRIPTION:The Active Hope Course\nThe following sessions will be restricted to a maximum group of 10. Participants will be expected to arrive in time and commit to all 6 sessions. Total cost is £30.00\nThese sessions will take place once a fortnight on a Tuesday evening\, from 7- 9 p.m. at Hadleigh Baptist Church Community Room (except for May 20th venue to be announced)\nDates: May 6th\, May 20th – alternative venue\, June 3rd\, June 24th\, July 8th \nOverview\nThe challenges we face can be difficult to even think about. Climate change\, war\, extreme inequality\, economic upheaval\, and the dying back of nature together create a planetary emergency of overwhelming proportions. \nActive Hope shows us how to strengthen our capacity to face this crisis so that we can respond with unexpected resilience and creative power. The course is based on the book Active Hope co-authored by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone and a free online training course devised by Chris Johnstone. It is designed to take participants on a journey that nourishes their capacity to make a positive difference in the world. Each section of the course introduces a practice that can be carried out as a personal reflection\, or as a structured partnered conversation\, or as a group practice. The intention is to support people in responding to the climate crisis without falling into despair\, and to strengthen our resilience and capacity to act with meaningful hope.\nIt is a transformational process informed by mythic journeys\, modern psychology\, spirituality\, and holistic science. This process equips us with tools to face the mess we’re in and play our role in the collective transition\, or Great Turning\, to a life-sustaining society. See https://www.activehope.info/free-training \nWhat to expect\n\nEach session lasts 1 ½ hours.\nThe opportunity for everybody to express their thoughts or feelings in a ‘safe space’ without fear.\nThe first part of each session will explore the Spiral of Active Hope: which includes gratitude\, honouring our pain\, seeing with new eyes and then going forthThe second part of each session will involve a practical nature based activity\nThere are 2 facilitators Emily Myers and Lindsay Panton\n\nFor further details and to sign up please contact lindsay@panton.name or emilymyerscelebrant@hotmail.com

SUMMARY:Carbon ‘Question Time’
DESCRIPTION:Tackling climate change is getting urgent.  Having talked it through with quite a few of you and done a lot of research about funding and what works\, we reckon it’s time to move up a gear and begin to really get Hadleigh moving. So\, in April we will be launching a campaign to help everyone make the changes that are needed to save the planet. Part of this will help people to reduce their carbon footprint and part is setting up a community energy project. This might focus on saving money (and CO2) by retrofitting houses with insulation\, double glazing etc. Or it might kick start a large scale project to generate energy from PV panels in the town. Or we might do both (but then we’d definitely need everyone to help!) \nWe haven’t yet finalised all the details (not least the best name for the campaign – all ideas welcome!) but we’re kicking off with a Carbon ‘Question Time’ event on Wednesday February 28th at 7.30pm at the Baptist Church\, George Street with experts on Net Zero\, PV panels and solar energy\, building design and insulation. This will be followed up with other activities such as market stalls\, leaflets and more events. \nWe think this is both exciting and really important  – climate change isn’t going away any time soon and the sooner we begin taking the next steps\, the better. \nIf you want to help just email back and we’ll tell you what and how you can get involved. Otherwise we hope to see you at 7.30pm on Wednesday 28th Feb at the Baptist Church Community Room\, George Street.
